This collection is a tribute to parenthood - in all its nuanced forms and textures. The act of childbirth is profound, but does not define parenthood or even motherhood. This collection expands upon the idea of a “push present”. I think it’s beautiful that giving birth is honored through jewelry gifts - and there are many more experiences that deserve to be honored. My wish is to honor the full spectrum of experiences around reproduction and parenthood. This includes the process of trying to conceive, loss of born or unborn children, adoption, IVF, abortion, step-parenting, and every experience in between and beyond.
Whether gifted to a loved one or to the self, these pieces were designed to be given as gifts to mark these experiences. I will be donating 10% of the profits from this collection to Kindred Space LA, the only Black-owned birthing center in Los Angeles. Kindred Space LA was founded by Kimberly Durdin and Allegra Hill, two midwives working to address systemic racism in Black reproductive healthcare. I experienced firsthand the quality of care that Kimberly provides, when I attended her childbirth education and breastfeeding class while I was pregnant in 2018. I hope for these pieces to become family heirlooms, while contributing to making holistically supportive reproductive care accessible to more families.
